Preludes and Shadows
With a cast of 8 dancers and two live musicians (violinist and pianist), Preludes and Shadows was originally an independent project, mainly funded by Kickstarter. Being the first choreographic work she made in Norway, Melissa set out to create a minimalistic work in an intimate space where the audience was close to the performers.

Ones perception of themselves within time is the main conceptual theme of Preludes and Shadows. Mentally living in the past, present or future has a way of affecting one to the point of destroying the good things they may find in life, the sweetest among them, perhaps finding a partner in love and life.
“As humans, mortals, we are always trying to learn and develop in one way or another. Sometimes we are simply searching for happiness. This is where time steps in to harass, provoke and seduce us because time is immortal, time feels nothing and time keeps going on with or without us. In this piece I chose to bring out the irony of relationship struggles by using time as its villain.”
